It Was A Solid Weekend, Folks

Today’s post is going to be a little scattershot! There’s a lot of stuff happening at the end of the week that I’m looking forward to, and some fun stuff that happened over the weekend I’d like to briefly discuss, so I’m going to take a little break from my TTRPG/board game stuff.

First of all, hey, how is everyone? Did you have a good weekend? I did! Do you know why? Because I got some new model kits!

With one Marmalade, for scale.

I ordered some stuff from my favorite online gunpla retailer, Newtype, last week and it arrived on Saturday. I bought two kits for me, two for my wife, and a batch of their awesome vinyl stickers featuring chibi designs of several mobile suits (specifically the Unicorn, Banshee, Phenex, Kshatriya, Nu Gundam, Sazabi, and the version of the RX-78-2 from The Origin). The stickers are great and support a good cause, so I highly remind buying them if you like stickers!

As for the kits themselves, I grabbed the AGE-1 Normal and the AGE-2 Double Bullet because yeah, guess what? I like Gundam AGE. There! I said it! The art style is fine, the designs are good, and Kio isn’t nearly as bad as people say (although he’s obviously not as cool as his dad, Asemu, who is one of the best protagonists in the entire franchise). I wish I could have gotten the Dark Hound, but alas, it was out of stock.

My wife, meanwhile, got two of the Hello Kitty x Gundam SD kits: the Gundam itself and the standard Zaku. She’d only built one kit before, the High Grade Beargguy from Build Fighters, but we’ve been talking for a while about doing build nights together. She was interested in trying some SD kits, and she thought the Hello Kitty ones would go well with her Hello Kitty x My Hero Academia Funko Pops.

On Saturday, we took some time to build together. She made the Hello Kitty Gundam, while I worked on finishing up the Master Grade RX-78-2 I started months ago and never got around to finishing.

So cute, but so deadly.

Her kit turned out great! Plus, I’m happy to report that at the time of this writing, all I have left of the MG kit is the weapons, which shouldn’t take me long to finish.

The other cool thing that happened this weekend? I got to play some Dark Alliance with friends. We had quite a few connectivity issues early on, it’s true, but that finally gave me the push to hook up my ethernet cable (I know, I know, I should have done that a long time ago, but the positioning of my consoles relative to my router is awkward because there’s only one room where—whatever, it’s not important). Once I had a wired connection, everything ran a lot smoother—no problems for the rest of the night.

Dark Alliance is not a perfect game by any means, but if you just want to kick back and kill goblins with friends, it’s a great choice—and, crucially, it’s free with Game Pass!

That pretty much covers my fun weekend, but I’m anticipating another one coming up.

See, on Thursday, the new Gundam movie, Hathaway, hits Netflix. I could not be more excited to check this out! I’m constantly craving new Gundam content, and I really can’t wait for this movie in particular, given that it’s an adaptation of one of Tomino’s classic novels.

Then, on Friday, the first Fear Street movie hits Netflix! I’m not a Fear Street guy—I’ve never read the books—but the movies look interesting. I like the idea of the streaming service releasing the whole trilogy over the span of three weeks. It should be a fun experiment, if nothing else! Plus, I love a period piece horror film. Overall, I get Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark vibes from the trailer, and that’s a good thing.

Well, that about covers it! I just wanted to take a minute today to appreciate the cool stuff that happened to me this weekend, as well as the cool stuff still lying ahead.
