Hey everybody! How are you? Doing well, I hope!
A couple weeks ago, I made a post about how I’d been feeling stressed out and overworked. I thought I’d take today to give a little update.
A couple of things have changed for me since that post. The big one: I got a new freelance gig! That’s really exciting. I’ve been able to shift around my work schedule a bit thanks to that extra income.
In the process of restructuring my schedule, I managed to get in two days off this week–yesterday and today. I can’t tell you how rejuvenating these last few days have been.
Yesterday, I spent some time hanging out with my roommate. We played a bunch of Marvel Champions, and then tried out a new game (to us, anyway, though it’s been around a while): Villainous! Specifically, the Marvel edition, because we are huge MCU nerds. My verdict: Villainous is a ton of fun! I’ll almost definitely be writing about it later.
This morning, my wife and I picked up breakfast and bought some new books. Specifically, I grabbed Alexander Freed’s Victory’s Price, the final Alphabet Squadron book–I’ve been dying to get my hands on it! I made us some burgers for lunch (with Caitlin’s help) and played a bunch of Assassin’s Creed 3. It’s been so nice to just… let myself relax.
So, yeah. I don’t really have a point here, honestly; I’ve just had a good few days and I wanted to celebrate that. A lot of people that I follow, and that follow me, are content creators, and that can be really hard. Many of us are trying to maintain our creative pursuits while also working a regular job (or jobs). It can be really stressful to try to balance all of that.
This is just my reminder to everybody to give yourself time to relax when you can. I know it’s not always feasible; sometimes life is crazy and you just don’t have the chance to slow down. But if you can find a way to give yourself a day or two where you don’t have to think about any of your usual grind, do it. It makes a huge difference.
