Resources to Combat Asian Hate

Hey, folks.

As I’m sure you’re all aware, there was a terrible crime perpetrated in Georgia yesterday. A white man killed eight people, specifically targeting Asian women. This comes after a year of increased violence against Asian Americans. The people involved in the murderer’s arrest, and those in his community, have excused his actions as those of a man “having a bad day.” They have characterized him as a “good Christian boy” who “never seemed violent.” Police have even denied that this was racially-motivated violence–despite the fact that, again, the killer was explicitly going after Asian women.

I don’t even know what to say about this. It’s just… devastating. It’s devastating that it happened. It’s devastating that we live in a culture that allowed it to happen, and that is trying to excuse the fact that it happened.

I don’t know how to talk about this stuff. I don’t feel like it’s my place; I’m a white dude. I can’t and shouldn’t speak for the Asian American community. But at the same time, I can’t be silent–because when it comes to issues like systemic racism and violence, silence is complicity. So, the one thing I do feel like I can say is this:

Be an ally. Educate yourself on these issues. If you see or hear people doing racist shit, call them out! Confront it! It doesn’t matter if they’re ‘just jokes,’ or it’s a ‘positive stereotype,’ or whatever–it still hurts. It still has a tangible, negative impact on other human beings. And it needs to be addressed; it’s not enough to not be racist yourself; you need to actively combat racism where you find it. Because leaving it alone only enables it to grow. Also, support Asian creators! Donate to charities that support and defend Asian Americans!

This site offers a ton of great links to educate yourself and support people doing important work:

Here’s a GoFundMe that gets your money into the hands of people who can help:

Here’s a list of other good places to donate:

And hey, you might remember that when I made a similar post last year, my favorite gunpla site–Newtype–was doing a charity drive with some really cool Gundam stickers. Well, guess what? They’re doing that again, with some cool new stickers! This time the proceeds go to Stop AAPI Hate. Newtype is Asian American-owned, the stickers are quality (I loved the ones I got last year), and they’ll match your donation! You can order here:

Please, support these charities if you can. Support Asian creators, business owners, and communities.
